Litter is Tacky, but Oh... So... American!

My wife and I went to Germany for vacation a couple of years ago, and a couple of things struck me about the care for which the German people show for their land, cities, and environment. Unlike our disposable culture, with plastic bottles and candy wrappers thrown from car windows onto highways and city streets, the German towns showed a corporate sensitivity… a sense of civic ownership and pride we seemed to have lost...or never developed. The streets were swept and clean. The houses were not necessarily large, but they were crafted with care, with wood, with stucco, and with a sense of place permanence –enduring through time and generations.
