How shocking it was to our ears to move to Western PA from out East and hear the locals drop their infinitives! "It needs fixed!" is a common expression, but the proper English is always: "It needs TO BE fixed."
Worse yet are the teachers who consistently misuse the past tenses, and say, "I could have went to the store," instead of the proper, "I could have gone to the store." What makes it all the more tragic is the number of teachers who insist that "I could have gone" is WRONG and want to correct my grammar!
No isn't that tacky??
